Coconut Oil January 14, 2015 11:30

Coconut oil has been getting rave reviews for the past couple of years (I am pretty sure that it is because of Oprah).  In my humble opinion I am happy that this under-rated oil is finally getting a chance to shine!

Coconut oil has been used in the making of natural beauty products for many years. Why? because it works really well as moisturizer!

Coconut oil smells great, goes on well, and is easily absorbed by the skin.  Its solid consitentcy at room temperature makes it VERY convenient to work with, and a snap to apply on the skin.

When coconut oils is combined with bees wax it makes a very lovely consistency; solid at room temperature, but when applied to the skin it begins to melt and is absorbed easily by the skin.

There are so many great properties of coconut oil making it perfect for skin care, to name a few:

Saturated Fats: Predominantly, these saturated fats are medium chain fatty acids or triglycerides. When applied on the skin, they keep it smooth to the touch. Due to the presence of these fats, coconut oil also helps retain the moisture content of the skin.

Capric /Caprylic/Lauric acid:  These three fatty acids have strong disinfectant and antimicrobial properties. As a result, when applied on the skin, coconut oil protects from microbial infections that can get into open wounds or even enter the body through the pores.

Vitamin-E:  It is essential for healthy skin growth, repair of wear & tear on the skin, keeping skin smooth and protecting against cracking. Above all, it prevents premature aging and wrinkling of the skin, since it has good antioxidant properties.

Proteins: Like coconuts themselves, coconut oil is rich in many proteins. These proteins keep skin healthy and rejuvenated, both internally and externally. Proteins also contribute to cellular health and tissue repair.

And finally, one of the best properties of coconut oil that makes it so beneficial for skin is that it does not easily  become rancid. When you apply it on the skin, it can work for a long time without it getting rancid. .

Here I have just provided a really brief summary about the many benefits of coconut oil. If you are interested in learning more we really encourage you to read more about coconut oil here.
